Good products can’t be built without good people. That’s why our blog is spotlighting talents at KONUX, their perspectives, experiences and stories of how they’re pushing the limits of what is possible in the tech space in order to make railway the mobility choice in a sustainable future.
Today’s author is Festus Yeboah, one of our Frontend Developers shaping the user-facing side of our complex predictive analytics platform which is changing the way large railway companies manage their infrastructure.
Hi. I’m Festus, a Software Engineer with a strong interest in Interaction Design.
I come from the center of the world (Ghana) Look it up!
My current focus is on utilizing modern frontend technologies to build user-friendly, and maintainable products. Before joining KONUX, I gathered valuable experience as a freelance consultant building products in finance, accounting and public health domains.
In my free time, I enjoy balancing the time in front of the computer by spending time in nature when the weather permits.
I’m currently working at KONUX Labs, the innovation station of KONUX, collaborating with a cross-functional team of Data and Software Engineers, Scientists and Market Analysts to build new products to support our mission of making Railway the mobility of choice. And, most recently, iterating on the KONUX Network product which is our solution to improve railway network usage monitoring and inspection planning.
1. Building user interfaces for multi-tenant, multilingual SaaS products that work across multiple time zones and backed by lIoT and artificial intelligence is challenging and fun at the same time. Not all Frontend Developers get to experience that…
2. Domain expertise: KONUX focuses on developing predictive maintenance solutions for railways. As Frontend Developers, we build applications that deal with large amounts of data, produced from IoT devices and third party sources, running through complex analytics models. It is important to understand what the end product / value is to the users in order to translate requirements into user-friendly interfaces.
3. Technological challenges: KONUX’s predictive maintenance solutions require advanced data analytics algorithms and machine learning models. As Frontend Developers, we work closely with the data science team to implement these models and make sure that the results are visualized accurately in the user interface.
And lastly, 4. Team collaboration: KONUX follows an agile development methodology that involves close collaboration between the different teams. As Frontend Developers, we work closely with UX Designers, Data Scientists, Product Managers and Backend Developers to create the best user experience possible. All of these make my work exciting.
I have worked on various customer-facing features and internal tools. Although I enjoyed all the projects, my favorite was working on internal products. These projects allowed me to utilize all my skills, including requirements gathering from internal users, interaction design, and software development.
Communication and knowledge sharing / collaboration skills are most important in a cross-functional team building complex applications!
KONUX’s culture emphasizes innovation, agility, and continuous improvement. To achieve this, we believe in fast iteration to quickly test and refine new ideas in collaboration with engineering, UX Designers, Product Owners, and Customer Success Teams. By releasing features quickly, we can get feedback from users and refine ideas to reduce the risk of developing features.
Continuous learning and skill improvement are absolutely critical. At KONUX, this is supported through our learning and development budget. Collaborating and communicating effectively with colleagues in an open feedback environment also helps avoid misunderstandings, and improve efficiency.
The opportunity to learn from a very diverse group of experts building a business in quite a challenging inudstry.
