BERLIN/MUNICH, Germany Almost two years ago, KONUX won the Deutsche Bahn (DB) tender for condition monitoring of switches as critical elements of the rail infrastructure. Now, KONUX Switch has passed DB’s prediction verification procedure which certifies that the Munich-based AI scale-up’s solution has over 90 percent prediction accuracy for the first part of the requirements. KONUX has thus achieved another important milestone within this project.
DB and KONUX had signed a long-term framework agreement at the end of 2020, with the involvement of another project partner, to digitize an initial 650 switches per project partner so that passengers can travel more reliably by train on heavily congested lines. KONUX had already successfully completed the roll-out to its 650 assigned IoT assets last year, as well as the integration with the existing DB asset diagnostics and analysis platform (DIANA), to which, among others, ca. 32,000 point machines are connected. This opens up further opportunities for predictive maintenance.

DB Project Leader Nina Kippenberg said: "Deutsche Bahn places the highest demands on its technical infrastructures. Therefore, the successful verification in this safety-critical area is an important milestone. It helps colleagues in the field and is a good step for more predictive maintenance. This will make us more digital and get more people on trains. A great success for all teams involved!"
KONUX CEO Adam Bonnifield said: “I am very excited and proud that we have reached this important milestone together with Deutsche Bahn. Passing verification is a significant step forward in the project as it proves the reliability of our predictions. This paves the way for a broader application of our solution and thus for more punctuality overall at Deutsche Bahn.”
DB’s tender for condition monitoring of switches as critical elements of the rail infrastructure was the first ever cloud-based SaaS infrastructure project of Europe’s largest rail operator.
KONUX is a leading German AI scale-up, transforming railway operations for a sustainable future. The company combines Machine Learning and IIoT to deliver Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions for operation, monitoring, and maintenance process automation. KONUX increases capacity, reliability, and cost-efficiency to make railway the mobility choice of tomorrow. Since its foundation in 2014, KONUX has raised more than $130 million from world-leading investors, expanded to ten countries in Europe and Asia, and was selected by the World Economic Forum (WEF) as one of the world’s 30 most innovative start-ups and scale-ups worldwide.
